P&O Ventura - D230 Inside Cabin Review.

D230 an inside Cabin Located on Deck 9 was our home for the 35 night cruise to USA & Central America. This was our first ever Trans-Atlantic and our longest cruise to date, having already sailed for twenty-one nights onboard Arcadia, albeit that time we had a balcony and a sofa bed. We did have concerns whether the inside room would be sufficient for this length of cruise and how three adults would coexist.. As we required the use of the pullman the bed configuration was two separate single beds (these can be altered to a queen if the pullmans are not in use).

Unfortunately the pullman beds do not go into the ceiling like some of P&O’s fleet when not in use, this does make the room appear slightly more bulky and you need to watch your head when sitting up if lying on the bed.

Location of D230 was great, it was forward but close to the stairwell and lifts, with cabins above & below us. We did experience more noise from our neighbours compared to other cabins we’ve stayed in on P&O, however this didn’t have a major impact. The cabin itself has plenty of storage facilities, with all our suitcases fitting under the beds, we did require more coat hangers but this is easily done by talking to the Cabin Steward. You can also ask for complimentary conditioner, body lotion among other things, the open wardrobe boasted plenty of space for all the ball gowns, and enough cupboard space for each of us.

One major issue is the location of the small television, if one or both of the pullmans are in use, the view of the television is fully obstructed for the bed below, on Aurora we have experienced similar issues but only with a partially obstructed view of the television. This of course is personal, but chilling in bed after a long day and watching some television prior to sleep is quite relaxing. The cabin has three UK plug sockets including the kettle which can be unplugged, no sockets are available around the head of the beds.

The bathroom has a walk in shower, with the dreaded shower curtain, if you know, you know! Plenty of space under the sink to store medical equipment for immediate use. Although on the small side the bathroom was more than adequate.

One issue that we noticed is the positioning of the two mirrors on opposite walls, in bumpy conditions (which we experienced for a few days), we found they caused slight disorientation with the reflection; one mirror would probably negate this effect. If you need to use the laundry facilities, we found it was quicker to go to Deck 10 to access the laundry room rather than the one on our deck located aft of the ship.

Deck Plan of P&O Ventura.

Overall this cabin was adequate for the journey, yes it is on the tight side for three adults, however, when you factor in the cost which was considerably less than other cabins it can make cruising more affordable leaving more money for more cruising…
